How does Khatabot work?

Khatabot automatically reads your bank SMS messages to detect expenses. When your bank sends you a message like "Rs. 500 debited from your account", Khatabot instantly logs it as an expense — no manual entry needed.

How do I set it up?

1. Install Khatabot from Google Play Store
2. Grant SMS permission when prompted — this is required for the app to work
3. Pull down to refresh — the app will scan your recent SMS inbox
4. New expenses will be logged automatically as bank SMS arrive

Why does the app need SMS permission?

Khatabot reads only your bank transaction SMS to automatically detect expenses. It specifically looks for messages containing keywords like "Debited" or "Spent". Personal messages, OTPs, and other SMS are completely ignored.

Is my data safe?

Yes! 100% Offline All your expense data is stored locally on your device only. No data is ever sent to any server, cloud, or third party. Your financial information never leaves your phone.

Which banks and transaction types are supported?

Khatabot works with all major Indian banks including SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Yes Bank, IndusInd, and more. It also supports:

• UPI payments (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm)
• Credit card transactions
• ATM withdrawals
• NEFT/IMPS transfers
• Online purchases and POS transactions

The app recognizes keywords like "Debited", "Spent", "Paid", "Withdrawn", "Charged", "Transferred" and currency formats including INR, Rs., and ₹.

My bank's SMS is not being detected. What do I do?

Some banks use non-standard SMS formats. Please email us at amangupta678@gmail.com with a screenshot of the bank SMS (you may hide sensitive details) and we'll add support for it in the next update.

How do I delete a transaction?

Long-press on any transaction card and tap "Delete" in the confirmation dialog.

How do I set or change my monthly budget?

Long-press the blue "Grand Total" bar at the bottom of the screen. A dialog will appear where you can enter your monthly budget in ₹. The budget is used to calculate the "Budget % used" shown in your monthly summary cards. Your budget is saved and remembered across app restarts.

How do I search for a specific expense?

Use the search bar at the top of the app. You can search by merchant name, amount, or any keyword from the bank SMS.

How do I refresh and scan old SMS?

Pull down on the main screen to trigger a manual scan. Khatabot will scan your inbox for bank transaction SMS from the last 30 days.

Does the app work without internet?

Yes! Khatabot works completely offline. No internet connection is required since all processing happens on your device.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

All locally stored expense data will be deleted. In a future update, we plan to add Google Drive backup so you can restore your data.
